Karen Brennan

Harvard Graduate School of Education

Karen Brennan is an Assistant Professor at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Having completed her PhD at the MIT Media Lab in the Lifelong Kindergarten group, her current research is primarily concerned with the ways learning communities support computational creators – and how technologies and environments can be designed for these learning communities.

Dr. David Dockterman

Chief Architect, Learning Sciences, Scholastic Education Adjunct Lecturer on Education, Harvard Graduate School of Education

David Dockterman is a nationally recognized pioneer in the development and implementation of technology for classroom instruction. A former classroom teacher, David helped found Tom Snyder Productions in 1982 while earning his Ed.D. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. At Tom Snyder, and later at Scholastic, David designed dozens of award-winning computer programs including Science Court and The Great Ocean Rescue. Most recently, Dr. Dockterman served as a key advisor for the development of MATH180, a revolutionary math intervention program. David is a frequent – and popular – speaker at NCSM, Title I, Learning and the Brain, and other conferences. He is also a Lecturer on Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where his course in innovation, technology, and instructional design draw students from around the world.

Paul Sagan

Partner and XIR, General Catalyst Partners & Vice Chairman, Akamai Technologies

Paul Sagan is a Partner and XIR at General Catalyst Partners and Executive Vice Chairman of Akamai Technologies, Inc., the leading cloud platform for media and content delivery, application performance, and Web security, responsible for serving between 15 and 20 percent of all web traffic daily. He is also a director of EMC Corp., iRobot Corp., and Datto, Inc., and previously he served on the boards of of Dow Jones & Company, Digitas, and Maven Networks. In 2010, he was appointed by President Obama to the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. He was made a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2008, and in 2009, he was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the technology category.

Pat Yongpradit

Code.org

Pat Yongpradit is the Director of Education for Code.org, the non-profit dedicated to promoting computer science education. His passion is to bring computer science opportunities to every school and student in the United States. He is currently a national voice on K-12 computer science education and is featured in the book, “American Teacher: Heroes in the Classroom.” Throughout his career as a high school computer science teacher, he inspired students to create mobile games and apps for social causes, and implemented initiatives to broaden participation in computer science among underrepresented groups. As a result, enrollment in his school’s computer science program doubled, the number of girls taking advanced computer science tripled, and many of his students went on to majors and careers in computing. Pat has also written and consulted on technology curricula at the local, state and national level and in 2010 was recognized as a Microsoft Worldwide Innovative Educator. In addition to teaching computer science, he is certified in biology, physics, math, health, and technology education. While Pat currently spends more time focusing on CS education at the national level, he still continues to find ways to get into the classroom and work with students, because at his core he will always be an educator.
